Title: Is there a way to get spare keys?

I'm sure people have come across this before, i'm always wary about bringing mine out, and i hate to leave it unlocked living in the city

John Jones at one time had a connection to get keys made from manufacturer.
But you HAD to have the little rubber tag to get a copy made.

I don't know if there is a connection with the manufacturer any more.
And to be honest I don't even remember the name of the company anymore. Those keys were pricey too.
I believe last I heard 65$/key.

Any more I feel lucky I have 2 keys. One on key chain that I carry and other in a drawer.

Some have used the key fob security systems, which are great once installed. But you have to remember when storing for Winter to put a charger on the X as that system uses the battery.

I personally, if I can see it when away from home done lock it. Other wise it's always locked.

It looks like people had used sportster keys in the past, is that something people are still doing?

Several Harley switches have been converted by owners.
I personally do not know which ones work, as I have OEM.
Hopefully some will comment here..

Mine has been converted to a Sporty key. The stock EH lock mechanism came apart before I bought it and the PO had a cool looking switch on it, just didn't lock.
I picked up a plain jane cylinder lock for a Sportster and built a new mounting back since I didn't want to hack up the OE part in case I ever wanted to go back. Again, not wanting to hack anything up I threw the old electrical part of the switch in a box for safe keeping and ordered the correct Deutsch connector and terminals off ebay.
Was a pretty simple process and I thought I was doing something unique until I saw others had gone down the same path.
At the time I also looked into a keyless system but elected to go the simple route.
