Title: 0307 History
Post by: blackheart on March 03, 2024, 06:43:16 PM
I bought 0307 from a farmer in Eagle Grove Iowa Feb 12-2012, had 6205 miles logged.

At 7200 miles pulled tranny to update and reflashed ECM. Dismissed aluminum debris as piston scuffing from breakin at the time.  Rode bike to 14300 miles with no issues (so I thought) but noticed metallic debris in oil.

Found LH main bearing had spun many moons ago, as well as thrust washers had been chewed up.  Rebuilt using leaded bronze for LH main but did not allow for inset of bushing on outboard end to allow for case growth.  It ran great for 500 miles but when it got fully warm on a long trip the bushing contacted the rotating components and seized spinning in case welding itself to the crankshaft.

Repowered the bike with 0204 engine and transmission.  I advanced the cam timing (both) to better mimic a typical intake / exhaust c/l.  Result is cams that are set up without advance or retard.  I feel it runs better at the bottom, which one would expect as the intake closing point is much earlier. I pinned the main bearings and removed the shimmed oil relief valve spring.

Currently has about 17000 miles on chassis, never having done anything to wheels, hubs, etc.

Electrically the regulator was changed from shunt style to MOFSET.

This bike was one of the first few off the line and a factory test mule being placed into demonstrator fleet. Had the late crankshaft installed despite being first run in manufacturing. Half the valves have undercut stems the half do not. What other unique parts are inside, I don't know.
