Since I bought my bike in early `99, I thought the only thing that did not add up with the quality look of the SX was the seat covering. Not that the seat looked horrible or anything, just that the vinyl looked thin and cheaper than other vinyl seats. After a few months of riding and talking with others back then of all kinds of fixes and upgrades, I was thinking of redoing my seat with real alligator skin. That idea was put on the shelf immediately as the cost back then (as I recall), was well over $1,000. Fast forward a couple decades and being stuck in the current, shitty economical climate, I certainly was not even going to research what it would cost now. But, I figure a good Marine Grade alligator embossed print would be a better look than the stock. For me, a nice finishing touch after 25 years.
For what it`s worth, that stock vinyl actually aged very well. It broke-in to look better than new, more like a leather look............... but you gotta admit .............

Dude! That looks fantastic and I'll bet it a heck of a lot more comfortable that gator skin. Nice job.

Yeah, should have done it years ago. Cover guy was asking me about different color/type panels, different color threads, etc., I just wanted to copy the stock panels, all black to not detour from the look of the bike. Blowing people`s minds with it, let alone them even knowing anything about the bike.
