Title: Maggie Valley, NC Excelsior Henderson Gathering
Post by: dalockha on June 28, 2013, 09:32:31 AM
To the Extended EH Family.

As in the past couple years, we would like to pull together a Maggie Valley NC Excelsior Henderson Rally.
to get the process rolling, we would like to propose the following dates: Thursday September 26th through Sunday September 29th.

This time has worked well in the past with X'ers arriving Thursday and or Friday and departing on Sunday. I wanted to get the proposed dates out to the boards so those that can attend can start the planning process. We are open to scheduling several rides for those that would like to participate and would like to consider Tail of the Dragon and the Devil's Whip, both of which offer exceptional day rides and provide great scenery. We could schedule one on Friday and one on Saturday as well. Always open to other options as well. This year we would like to try and offer some additional structure by putting some possible meeting times and way-points out to the group as well so individuals that want to meet along the way could easily join in.So first step is to lock in the dates then we can work to lock in some events and times. Please join us for some great camaraderie and riding! While we love our X's we are brand agnostic, so bring what you ride and plan on having some fun!

Please let me know if you have any questions. Regards,  Dave Lockhart

Excelsior Henderson Maggie Valley Update September 26th-29th 2013

Fellow X enthusiasts,  I wanted to provide the groups with the latest updates for the Maggie Valley EH gathering in September. First of all I want to ensure that everyone is aware that this event is open to ALL X enthusiast, and we would love to have as many folks with X’s attend as possible!

In reference to the agenda, here is what is currently coming together.

I spoke with Dale at Wheels through Time this afternoon and asked if we could schedule a guided 2 hour tour through the Museum on Saturday September 28th from 10:00 am till 12:00. Dale thought it was a great idea and said he would welcome the opportunity. He did offer one caveat which was that his new TV show that launched last month tended to have him flying across the country at the drop of a hat. He stated that he planned on being there and would be glad to accommodate us for the guided tour. My purpose for setting this up was to allow us all to get Dale’s perspective on Excelsior Henderson’s place in motorcycling history and to provide our group with additional details on the legacy of the great machines we enjoy today. As an FYI each of us will be responsible for the standard museum ticket cost, there will not be an additional cost for the dedicated tour.

Ham LaForge and I are working on mapping out a few rides for the event and we will incorporate this into our agenda. As previously stated we are looking to ride the Tail of the Dragon and the Devils Whip and will also look to add another possible ride. I also spoke with Tony Dominy and he has offered a couple route selections as well, we are also open to additional input from attendees!

While we will plan on arriving Thursday during the day, we understand that not everyone can make it in that early. Our goal was to set up a morning Ride  and an afternoon ride for Friday the 27th, schedule an EH breakfast on the 28th, followed by the Wheels through Time Guided tour and then an afternoon ride for those that want to attend. For those that may be able to arrive on Thursday we could also set up an afternoon ride and also possibly a Sunday morning ride. AS you are all aware, weather dictates the rides and hopefully it will cooperate with our event. So weather you ride an X or simply want to learn more about them we hope to see you in September.

One final update, I will be getting additional links for hotels in Maggie Valley and will send them out to the group in the next week.

We are looking forward to seeing the group in September and hope that by adding a small amount of structure that we can spend some great time riding, eating and getting an update on the history of the phenomenal machines that pulled us all into this brotherhood.

Please call me if you have any questions.

The motel across from Wheels Through Time is full so I made a reservation at the Ramada.  I hope to be able to make it down there.  Looking forward to a great time!

Dave,

Question as I will not make it this year but I am definitely in for next year. The question is do wives that do not ride usually come along as my wife does not ride. I have never been there and would like to ride some of the roads with other X ers. Also I have a good friend that may bring his HD.

Let me know if you know of any ladies that do not ride would be there....

Thanks

Jon

Maggie Valley- Excelsior Henderson Road Club -Group Ride
Maggie Valley, NC, September26th-29th 2013
Agenda
Quick Note from Dave Lockhart:
Thanks for attending what is becoming a great yearly tradition in Maggie Valley. Below are a few items I wanted to share with the group.
•   All of the scheduled ridesare voluntary and were recommended by avid riders. Western NC offers some phenomenal riding and scenery. We hope to have a large group participate in the rides but with so many options, we understand that some may wantto conquer unchartered territories during their stay.

•   Meals are basically set up as a great place to eat and also offer a rallying point for departures. Evening dinners are the right time to tell tall tales about riding yourX on 1 wheel up and back on the dragon! Meal times are also a great chance to sync with friends and spend some time catching up. We hope you will be able to join as many group events as possible.

•   I encourage everyone to exchange some cell phone numbers and, if you head out on your own ride, have a few contacts to reach out to from the attending group. There will be several folks trailering in; if you run into a snag, we will be happy to get you back to the group locations and assist as needed. My cell number is 919 931 9128

We had a fantastic turnout for the Fall get together! Xer's from as far away as
California came to Maggie Valley to enjoy a few days of X's and great mountain
riding! The fun started on Thursday as early and late arriving Xer's met up.
Friday after a filling breakfast from Joey's a group of "about" 30 Xer's took
off for various rides around the mountains of North Carolina and Tennessee. One
of the rides consisted of a jaunt across the Blue Ridge Parkway and down into
the Copperhead Loop. Lot's of curves and views that would take your breath away!
After a late lunch, back to Maggie Valley where most of the group went out to
dinner at Snappy's, an Italian place that gladly welcomed 25-30 hungry Xer's. On
Saturday, We met up at the Wheels through Time Museum where Dale gave a
informative talk and demonstration of various Excelsior and Henderson
Motorcycles. WTT is a MUST see when your in town. After the visit we managed to
somehow get all the Xer's together for a group shot. The Afternoon ride was a
ride over to the tail of the Dragon, a famous road with about 318 turns in an
eleven mile ride. "Some" floorboards were scraped as many Xer's did the round
trip and returned with wide smiles on their faces. A great ride back to Maggie
Valley where Xer's relived the past couple of days and the great riding! After
Dinner, Many went back to the Holiday Motel to catch up and make future plans to
ride again. We rode and enjoyed all that was offered and look forward to the
next adventure.
Sunday morning and many had loaded up, a few were staying for another day of
riding.
A good time was had by all!
Thanks to the efforts of the Excelsior-Henderson Road Club and all the Xer's
that made this a time to remember!! See you at the next ride!
