Title: Rider Assistance
Post by: franknsr on July 04, 2013, 06:54:02 AM
Long time ago there was a list we riders could sign up for to offer assistance to X riders who were traveling and might need a part or a garage in the event a problem occurs while on the road. Is that still happening?
I mention this for two reasons; I had an issue on a recent trip and someone suggested I contact a local X'er, and if anyone needs help while passing through Northern Il I want to make sure you can find me.

It appears that everyone has their site of choice.... Which isn't a big deal at all, as far as I'm concerned, as long as folks can get the info they want.

Dan has a huge amount of info on this site, I may just toss this idea at him in the future...

Maybe now is a good time to do that with the EHRC forming and all.
Just a thought.

Solid idea and the issue usually becomes the information on the website gets old and then not updated, so becomes not very relevant.  Also, many riders willing to help and generally don't sign up on a form, so we opted presently to allow a search by state instead.

On our site, you can search by state, and many riders have listed their contact information.  Generally what most of us have found, is most EH X Riders will assist one another if they are contacted. So feel free to search by state and then contact owners/riders in the area. If they cannot assist, they usually know someone that can.  That's probably the most current method.  Or call the EH Shop in Jordan MN or Marty and Jamie in Virginia, as sometimes we know riders in certain areas that can assist too.  Either way, sometimes it is indeed a longshot...like trying to get help on the road for a DeLorean!  Locate another DeLorean owner and viola therein is the assistance.

If you believe a separate signup is more helpful, we can certainly do that, especially with the new EHRC and the new Road Service Shop, which has been quite busy with service on these fine machines.  We could probably add an area in the EHRC website, wherein members can log in and then check other members in the area, and contact a club member.  That's a great idea, club members can assist and usually will!  For twenty years now I have been involved with Excelsior-Henderson and things evolve over time.  I plan to stay involved forever.

Thanks for bringing this up...continuous improvement.

There is an attorney who rides that started a roadside assistance program, by bikers and for bikers. When you sign up, you also have the option to be of assistance. Since I have a car trailer, I signed up to assist any bikers who might call for help while in my area.
Since Xer's are spread pretty thin throughout the country, it might be a good idea to sign up with these guys. Russ Brown is the attorney, and he specializes in motorcycle accident claims (I'm sure this program helps his business). Nonetheless, it is nation wide and costs nothing to sign up. If you are interested here's the web site:
