Title: Aluminum Shavings in my engine oil
Post by: #941 on August 15, 2013, 08:42:19 PM
No. 941 has aluminum debris in the oil. The shavings are curled up about 1/16 inch wide and approximately 1/4 inch long. It looks like metal that came from machine work.  the Bike has 10,000 plus miles. It runs great.  No evidence of engine problems.  I spun a left main bearing at 1700 miles.  I disassembled the bike and had new main bearings put in. However, I never noticed the engine shavings until this year. Does anyone have any experience with this problem?

Hmm, never experienced that, but then again, could have had something in my oil and never noticed. Think I'll start screening my oil.

Obviously very hard to tell where it came from.... And I won't deny tha it'd be an eye opener.

But whats a guy gonna do?        Unless I had signs of something amiss..... I'd just keep riding. Hard to predict how long those have been floating around.

Really watch the oil the next couple oil changes

Thanks for the comment. That is pretty much what I decided to do. It is possible that the shavings have been there since the mains were replaced and I didn't notice. I have now ridden about 1000 miles more since I learned about the shavings.
