Title: Convert?
Post by: AJ Esch on April 21, 2011, 09:02:16 PM
Having done some research on EH, Victory and Indian motorcycles, I found a Super X and X models to look at. I had an '06 HD Ultra Classic, I was impressed with EH's styling. Neither bike has been run since '07 and I doubt the dealer would be willing to allow a test ride. The right footboard seemed to be a bit cramped. Has anyone made their X more compatible with touring? I'd like to have some opinions posted.

Thanks!

Not sure what you are distinguishing the differences of a "super X" and a "X".... as the model run didn't title that way.
There were Deadwoods, Jennies, and the regular model (HCX I believe is the way the vin runs)....

The jennies were the touring bike.... and you'd know one by the one color Silver. Usually decked out with full windshield, road lites, crash bars, and bags.
Mine is a regular ol Excelsior .... and I've ridden it to Sturgis 6 times now.... all trips in one day, at 500 miles.

I wouldn't want to start those bikes if they haven't been started since 07.... they'd need a bit of hand work before a good run, and start.

good luck.... and check the sites out on prices.... dealers right now are really hi dollar, compared to ebay and other sources....

need to add... about the ride... I was in a hurry when I posted last....
Super X rides are very good. That springer with the mechanical anti dive works, and works very well. My only complaint for my boney butt, is the seat. I got a corbin, which for me was like day and night. There are a lot of owners out there that are fine with the stock seat.

For a heavy bike they handle very well... and depending on your size, and the monoshock settings, you'll get different clearances for curves.

I've also got a wind vest windsheild.... works very well, and looks good.

All the vendors have forward controls for your feet. I don't have any as of yet, and may down the road. My Son has a set of Bobby (Xmany) Baldwins forward controls, which I like.... as I can dangle my feet over them, for a change up of position. Maybe hard to find a set of his.... but the other ones I'm sure are alike.

Marty/Jamie's forward controls, I believe you can leave the footpads on, and have the convenience of the forward controls.

I've heard of several owners putting throttle locks on their bikes, and they work very good. Although I can't remember the brands.

Our X's are selling at great prices right now on Ebay. Some with all the updates done, and good milage, at prices between 5k-8k. Crate bikes are a bit higher, but you need to understand that there are a few updates that you really should invest in .....

hope this helps...

Thanks for the reply.

I'll be keeping my eyes open for other opportunities. $12K seemed a bit high to me especially when it would need some updates.

Great looking machines.

12k.... it had better have all updates, and be fresh out of the crate, and been massaged a bit ....
