Title: Riding with a bad stator
Post by: mharrold on May 17, 2011, 07:21:51 PM
My stator is bad. (ordering a replacement from Marty tomorrow morning)
How long can I ride before I'll need to recharge the battery? I know it depends on amount of light usage, turn signals, RPM, blah blah... but is an hour too long on the interstate?
I have a gathering this weekend and would like to take #459 even if I have to recharge it when I get there.

Well..
I lost mine in Sturgis 3 years ago. We were a long ways from our home base (around 60 miles). I didn't know how long the battery would last, so I pulled the "lites" fuse. I also shut off the oil cooler fan.
Didn't know it until I got on the seat to ride.... that fuse kills: lites, brake lites, turn signals, speedo, tach.

But I made it.... and it was all interstate. And the battery still sounded good once I got to home base. I realize this isn't an exact.... but it kind of gets you in a ball park guesstimate.

Gives me a rough enough idea. Round trip is probably 70 miles mostly interstate. Should be ok.
thanks
