Hello.
I'm new here and I live in Sweden
I just bought my first Super X (#374) and
I have a question for you. When I start my motorcycle it revs up to 3000 rpm. After 30-60 seconds, it starts slowly (for one to two minutes) to fall to 1750 rpm. And from there to 1000 rpm, it takes another one to two minutes. Is this normal?
How much should the motorcycle rev when you start it?
How long will it take before the rpm drops to normal idle? To be careful with the gearbox, I don't like to put it in first gear before the engine speed has fallen to 1,000 rpm.
I appreciate any input.
Thanks Kent

Hi Kent,
Yes, I believe your description is normal. Both of my Super X's idle very high when first started, then very gradually come down to around 1000.
Do you know Jonny Pettersson?

Kent,
Welcome to the forum. As Mike mentioned, that behavior is fairly normal. The idle speed on these bikes is controlled by the ECU. There is an Idle Air Control Valve on the throttle body. If you turn the key on for a moment, then turn it back off, you can hear the motor adjusting the setting on the Air Control Valve.
The bike will normally only do the behavior you're describing when it's cold but, not quite that fast. 3000 RPMs sounds a little bit high. It could be that your bike has leaky intake seals. They are worth replacing if you're unsure of the history of the bike. Extra air leaking through there might cause the high idle you're describing. I'd say that normal high-idle is maybe 2000 RPM and settling down very quickly to 1500.
Or you should be able to blip the throttle and it should settle down to about 1500 RPM after only a few seconds of running. After a minute, it should have settled down to 1200 RPM or less.

Likewise, It might be best to verify what tune you have in your X. If you have the original tune, you need to get it upgraded to a Super X Tune...
