Title: clutch & brake master cyl kits
Post by: blackheart on June 02, 2016, 08:20:39 PM
I took 0307 on a two way trip totalling 150 mi.

Last year I bought the slave cylinder upgrade & installed it.

In the middle of a traffic jam the clutch became non functional.  It later recovered somewhat.  I figure it is time for a rebuild.  Where do I get kits?  Figure I should do both brake MC too since age is against their favor

Atlantic EH has the "round" "0" Vinton rings other than the OEM square rings..
I'm not sure why you would rebuild clutch slave after only one year. It should last I'd figure a couple at least. I've got 34k on 525, and have only rebuild slave twice since 2001, with no issues.
Have you used any crank case oil additives like Lucas?..     it can create symptoms you describe.i call it hot dry clutch syndrome.
The brake master cylinder rebuild kits....  I'm sure they would also have a lead...
But if they are not creating a problem....    I'd just change the fluid.  Our Xs are due....

The slave I rebuilt is fine, I should clarify myself, the MC is what I figure went south.  It later worked.  Seems good now so maybe the porting in the feed hole got plugged and it sucked air in.  Later it may have vibrated loose.

Welcome to DOT 5 brake fluid. The fluid can absorb air in the fluid, that is then released when the fluid gets hot. I've had the exact same problem with the rear brake on one of my Buells as well as the clutches on my Excelsiors.

Bleed it again. Use a Mityvac pump if you didn't the last time. I guarantee there is trapped air in the system. It may take bleeding it 2-3 times before you get it all. I hate DOT 5 brake fluid.

Interesting Greg you bring up the antics of DOT 5.
525 clutch MC is ruthless to bleed even with mitey  VAC.
And other Xs I've bled no headaches what ever.
Front brakes may bleed easily one time and not the next. Same with gravity bleed on

hey Bruce... S/N 525?? Was this one of Bobby's X's? Might have his "Heavy Duty" slave cylinders that you would need monster guns to pull in... Just sayin...
