Title: 2000 e-h super X deadwood needs windshield
Post by: daviddurtschi on January 14, 2017, 09:28:55 PM
I'm pulling 1756 out of mothballs again and want to fabricate a windshield.  Was hoping someone would send me some close up pixs of where and how the windshields attach to the forks.
Thanks for any help.  either post them on this site or email me at dddurtschi@hotmail.com

David,
I searched long and hard and could never find the windshield brackets for 901. So I had a friend fabricate some simple brackets from flat metal stock. I found a windshield from a Yamaha Star motorcycle that had similar lines to the EH windshield and configured the mounting holes on the bracket to fit that windshield. (I know, I know....a Japanese windshield on an X.....but it's a very high quality windshield and many of the factory parts on our X's come from Japan anyway).
I then sourced the hardware for the quick release and had the brackets chromed. These brackets, BTW, mount just like the factory brackets. They just aren't as attractive as the OE brackets.
One advantage I do have, is that my windshield just pops right out for easy cleaning. No bolts, or even latches, just a very solid friction fit.
  Good luck with your project!

Yeah, foggy morning. I probably should have taken the time to dry it off, but didn't.

My bike has a windshield off a late 90's Vulcan that came from National Cycle. I made up some brackets similar to what 2 Cool Wheels did, however I have the redneck version, but it fits and works great.
