So I haven't ridden the X in about a month and a half. Been out of town and left the battery tender on, with a full tank of gas. When I took the tender off, pulled the bike out of the garage and fired it up, it just kept cranking over and over and over. It started up a few times for about .5 second-2 seconds at a time but would die. The little battery cranked that thing over many many times, i'm impressed with the battery but not impressed that I can't ride.
What are the first things that I should check? What would have corroded over a month and a half that would make the bike do this?

I'm going to go through the service handbook this evening after work, but if there are any obvious culprits, i'd love to hear thoughts!

Brix....
Here's where I'd go first..
Our Xs ate persnickety about fuel...and I know you haven't had this X long.
Check fuel lines and injectors
Check fuel pump pressure
And check spark
Get that done hopefully she'll start.. in not come on back

Looks like it was actually old fuel! An easy fix. I siphoned the gas out and put new stuff in last night and it fired up this morning. Pretty easy fix, though I'm surprised it went bad after only a month and a half

Very Cool...
unfortunately, and I cannot prove this, as I'm not gasoline expert...
BUT todays fuels are very hi tech, with all sorts of chemicals in it....
it get sour quick, especially if it sits still....
from my experience anyways....
Glad to hear its back on the road

Bruce,
You are correct. Gasoline these days isn't what it used to be, and a major contributor to it's poor quality is ethanol. It separates from the real gasoline, and starts corroding components. It is also less energy dense, so it provides less power, making our fuel economy worse. Avoid ethanol if you can. I also recommend using a product like "Sta-bil" in fuel systems that are expected to sit for more than a month. It does keep the chemicals from separating.
