Bruce,
For others looking for this in the future, the thread is here with the specifics of the thickness I bought.
http://www.ehforums.com/ehwebsite/forums/index.php?topic=1203.0I bought it on eBay. I found it under silicone damping fluid. It’s used for a lot of things.
With all that said, the weight I bought may have been too thick or maybe I need to take the gauge apart to get it in there. I removed the fuel gauge and wiped some of the fluid on the gauge shaft using a toothpick. My hope was that gravity / capillary action would draw the fluid down into the bearing.
Well after a few weeks it hadn’t done a thing to fix the wagging. I removed it again and buttered it up. It’s still sitting on my dining room table and I don’t know if it’s worked or not. It’s been six months...
So if I were going to buy again, I might choose a lower viscosity. Or maybe this will take more invasive disassembly. No definitive answers right now. Sorry. I’m not desperate enough to try to remove the needle yet.
