Erik,
Jamie/Marty (Atlantic EH, superxparts.com) have a new batch of them in (been in for a while actually), made by the original vendor.
Jamie/Marty (Atlantic EH, superxparts.com) have tried several different stators made for other bikes out there, with no luck. We have also had several members try other stators, with the same results. One of our past Vendors was rewinding our Stators.... thinking this was the direction to go, only get 6000 mile results....
Rich's (blackheart) comments are right on... test that stator to make sure that is the issue. from the stator it should read on the stator leads 60VAC on each phase. If not, then it is the stator. if the Stator tests good You then can check at the battery, to see what volts its pushing thru. If less than 13 volts its the voltage regulator. IF you cannot see any volts at the battery,..... the 2 leads going to battery run under the engine (I know, as I had both of mine rot out)...
You are asking at the wrong venue if you should sell or not. I believe everyone here wishes to keep their beautiful machine.
I'm guessing you are tired of the surprises your X keeps sending your way? Pretty much all of us have experienced what you are going thru, early into owning a low milage X. We've all jumped thru the hoops, and did our research, and then fixed. Many of us disappointed at the worst times or places.
I gotta admit, your black '99 in your pictures looks very nice... Hang in there...
