Loud shifting into first

My brother and I were riding a few weeks back and he made a comment that when I shift into first it sounds like a rock hitting a pie tin. A big rock. Now that he mentioned it, it does sound very loud. I don't recall my previous X being nearly this loud. This can't be good for the trans.

Happens warm or cold, first shift when I leave the house and at every stoplight. Don't remember my mileage but lets call it 40k, trans upgrade done and regular.. no... sooner than needed Mobil one oil changes. Clutch feels fine, not dragging but shifting does get a little tight when the bike is hot.

Anyone else experience this or know where I should start?

We've got 3.
of the 3 mine is the loudest first time first gear bang ....
Our Deadwood, has always been the sweetest shifting of all.....

All three really didn't change much except for that Atlantic EH detent spring..... that's pretty nice touch....

Since the beginning on my bike I had been adding Lucas oil when I could afford it... Then 2 years ago, I went to the X rally in Minnesota, and got to talking to Jim Turek,... he had me ride his blue X as it was shifting odd to him. ....

For me his was shifting like it had hot oil...  .... We got Jamie involved, and it turned out that you DO NOT

use any aftermarket slickers... IE Lucas... etc.

Jim ended up pulling his clutch and cleaning the plates.... now no problem.

I quit using that product about 3 oil changes ago.... with no real problem except this early spring after an oil change, it acted like it slipped under full throttle.... a few times...

I don't know if you use such products or not, but there's that....

Now Jamie's clutch test.....   do not start the bike, put it in gear, pull in clutch. Does it roll easily, or roll hard?
May have to adjust clutch..... or if you used such mentioned above product... you may have to pull clutch and clean it up....

let me know what your thoughts are.....

No oil products, just Mobil 1 M/C oil.
My test has always been to crank the bike in gear with the clutch pulled in to see if it walks. Just tried Jamie's test and sure enough, there is just a little drag.Glad you said to adjust the clutch...thought that this wasn't necessary on a hydraulic clutch, so now I've got something else to look at.

Although hydraulic couch... its not self adjusting like many autos are
