I know it's a bit messy, but that's actually the best place to route the oil breather hose. Originally it was routed to the air intake system, but tended to foul up the throttle body. When most owners upgraded their air cleaner and intake brackets, they re-routed the hose away. Some simply routed it to the frame below the transmission, but that led to oil getting all over the back wheel and brake. (I know, both my X's were that way when I got them). At the advice of other owners, I have since re-routed to the rear fender where any oil puked out will do the least damage.
