Regulator upgrade
« on: July 26, 2017, 07:21:58 PM »
Just finished rt66john's regulator upgrade and I'm happy to report that my bike has not yet burst into flames and seems to be working well so far. The Shindengen SH775BA aint cheap, so I picked up a low mileage used part from a little old lady who only drove her ute to church on Sundays. Shindengen has a warning on their website about the cheap counterfeits being sold so I thought I'd be better off with a used OE part, than a knock off. With the wiring components I think It was about a $100 investment, not bad, and the installation was only about 3 beers long.
John's write up is pretty complete. About the only thing I can add is that I turned my regulator bracket upside-down to offset the replacement regulator as far as possible from the front exhaust pipe.
Thanks John, well done sir.

Frank,

I'm glad it has worked out so far.  An issue I'm having this year is the screws on the battery working loose often.  You may want to check the battery terminals often if you ran the wires the same way I did.

John,
Did you buy the updated cables?
Our DWS was the worst.... cables came undone all the time.... I ended up soldering the bolts/screws in place...
The OEM cables are apparently too stiff, and vibrate from engine....   I've replaced on 2 of our X's... no more problems...

They're on my list, but might move closer to the top.
