R&D engine

I thought you all may be interested in an early engine development.
This is the beginnings of the new top end on the Weslake crankcase.

MIKE! You got prototype stuff with the sale?

I see only two thermocouples on the cylinders so they weren't capturing anything but overall head temp. I wonder why there's no oil in the feed lines going to the heads. Or I'm assuming those are the feeds. I don't see the shaft for the cam drive gear inside the spark plug well. Did they have timing chains all the way to the top? The shift linkage was routed behind the primary. The rubber motor mounts are interesting too. I wondered if they were Harley FXR mounts for the prototype but--no--they seem to be the final configuration for our bikes. Is that a Harley clutch cable visible there or is that a hydraulic fitting? I also bet the crank snout thing hanging off was for instrumenting the oil pressure getting to the bottom end.

And that little bit looks like it's a final tank (or very close to it). The cylinders are cast but, don't look like the final form.
How very cool. MORE pictures!

Looking at it more: does it have an electric oil pump? I wonder if this one was for calculating, testing or finalizing oil flow to the different parts of the engine.

This is one of the engines I recall seeing during my self guided plant tour for the auction that wasn't. This and at least one production engine was in a running bike with sensors attached.
I've got my left nut now listed on ebay to try and raise enough money to talk Seastrom out of this bike. :-)

If I recall the conversation with Dan the first time I saw the bike, He said something like "that was the development of the new heads, before we made them pretty".
