compufire 55402 regulator
« on: July 09, 2016, 09:02:28 PM »
Just so everyone knows, the compufire 55402 regulator which unloads the alternator stator to match the actual load rather than load it fully all the time like the stock unit worked out great.  No adaptor brackets required, just splice wires on the stator side & route power and ground to the battery.  Best part is its made in USA.  This modification should go a long way to lengthening the stator life.  The wires out of the stator are now at ambient temperature rather than mildly hot to the touch.  I feel these wires are undersized.  Both the stock regulator & the compufire use much heavier wire for the 3 phase power input to regulator compared to the stator leads.  I'd recommend this modification to anyone

Sounds great.. gonna have to track/store this info for down the road. I'm all about anything that will lengthen the life of our stators...
I'm still amazed with Bennets stator from our cannonball trip 2014....   31k miles and first stator

I believe the stator in 901 is still original, unless the first owner changed it before the 6K miles that were on it when I got it. I have, however, had to cut out the connector due to melted pins and splice it directly to the regulator. I've had a complete wire harness melt down on this bike, a shorted battery and other electrical issues, but the haven't yet changed the stator.

Glad to hear there's another option to the Shindegen regulator I used.

At last year's PCRC Rally, a claimed original stator was changed at 60,xxx miles in a parking lot.
