GUIDE - OIL COOLER LINES

So I was doing a oil change and found that the oil cooler lines
were really hard - cracked and ugly !

I was able to get the Oil Line from my local bike guy.
So I replaced them using some AN-6 Stainless Steel Braided Oil Line.
Looks really great and way better than the original black lines.

Look great Erik....

On my hoist..... It's very difficult to lift the X without damaging those oil lines. So I routed my hoses all above that cross member... My hoist system would crush them.

Something to think about, and I'm sure all have there own preference.

So is the output to the oil cooler come from the port on the side of the oil pump housing or the line that runs into the bottom of the crankcase?  Does it matter?

My X has a hose looping around the frame brace between the two. Probably indicates it used to have an oil cooler?

On the first photo I see that the forward drain plug on this bike looks quite different from mine.  The only place I see any oil leakage on mine is that forward crankcase drain, not quite enough to drip, but always wet and spreading over the bottom of the crankcase.  The bolt head is chrome and deep and it has some thick washers (copper compression or cork-like).  Is the one in this thread original looking?

relooking at your pictures here.... I just want to be comfortable with what you did.... but are those hoses going to have clearance?  From what I'm seeing, and maybe its just the photo... they look down further that I would like...    please just double check...

with out going out to my shop and looking up on the book I don't know which is output or input... but it really doesn't matter on the superXparts.com cooler...

Our OEM drain plugs are allen head. And they do become a problem. A lot of the owners, including myself have changed them out for hex nut. The NAPA one has a magnet.
My theory on the drain plugs being so tight is that our cases are sand cast. Even with a washer, the oil is sucked away from the drain plug...    sometimes its unbelievable.. how tight they get. Be very aware when changing the oil....

Yea .. they look kinda LOW .. But In real life they are fine  :)
The ORG lines were also like this and lasted 15-18 years !  LOL
I am sure these will too  :)

Putting on a pair of 45 degree fittings would tuck it tighter to the frame. And , once fitted and good, change the worm clamps out to "Olyander" clamps...
