Description: 1999 Excelsior-Henderson Super X Black with Red Pinstripes VIN: 5EH1HCX07XB000061 Original and Current Miles: 9,650
Serial number 61 is one of about 1,650 built between 1999 and 2000 and was manufactured during the initial production run but was never assembled or delivered to the early investor who was assigned the serial number. Instead, it was purchased new by the current owner from an authorized Excelsior-Henderson dealer in 1999 with every accessory available at the time including windshield, soft saddle bags, extended shift lever and driving lights. The owner has all promotional material, service records, keys, books, accessories and spare parts including the rare service manual that was unfortunately, never completed before the company folded. Even the door of the shipping crate is included that still has the signatures of most of the Excelsior-Henderson staff at the time.
Over the past the past 24 years of enthusiast ownership, this original example has been extensively serviced and updated by Jamie Jones of Super X Service in Elkton, VA. Jamie has rebuilt the engine and updated the notoriously poor shifting 5-speed transmission by blueprinting the rotating components and installing premium parts. Among other updates, he has replaced the troublesome wiring harness, updated the ECU with the latest software and replaced the fuel tank, pump and pressure regulator after properly coating the inside. Wide white wall, tube type tires and a supplemental oil cooler were all installed around 2005. With a recent oil change, brake signal switch and new battery, the bike continues to run perfectly and with all the work completed by Jamie over the years, most certainly rides and drives better than new.
Many parts have been re-chromed by Jamie or by Librandis Plating in Harrisburg, PA around 2005. Often the early production Super X bikes were two-tone, but this is a rare black on black example. It is believed that the fuel tanks and fenders were painted by the individual parts manufacturer and not by Excelsior-Henderson so solid color bikes often had slightly different colors on these three components. To correct this minor variation in appearance, the tank and fenders were expertly painted to the original ?thunder? black with red pin stripes about 2005. The result is spectacular with many show quality chrome parts and glossy clear-coated deep black paint. The original motorcycle enthusiast owner is the bike?s only rider and S/N 61 has accumulated just 9600 miles over the past 24 years. It has always been maintained with synthetic oil changes regularly. The bike needs nothing and can be ridden immediately although tire replacement is recommended due to age.
This special and well-loved motorcycle is one of several heavyweight cruisers currently owned and for sale by the original owner who has decided to hang up his helmet after a lifetime of riding. Over the past four years, this bike has probably been ridden a total of less than 20 miles but has always been insured, registered, inspected, and garaged.
