Chrome Brake and Clutch Levers
« on: November 25, 2018, 08:51:50 PM »
This subject has been batted about in the past: which other motorcycles share our clutch and brake levers. In buying one of my bikes, I was welcomed by some very nice, aftermarket, wide-blade levers. Doing some research, I discovered that they were Kuryakyn brand. That only helped so much because--I still didn't know which model or interchangeability.

So here is the Kuryakyn cross reference for all to see, for now and evermore:
Kawasaki: '87-'08 Vulcan 1500 Models (including Mean Streak), '03-'08 Vulcan 1600 Models (including Mean Streak)

Suzuki:
'98-'06 Intruder 1500LC/Boulevard C90, '04-'06 Marauder 1600/Boulevard M95

If a lever fits one of those bikes, it should fit the Super X. The Kuryakyn part number for our bikes is 7427.

Part of the reason I like these levers is the larger contact surface. They just feel more right to me on such a substantial bike. I first used wider surface lever on one of my Buells and honestly miss the feel on my other bikes.

The other reason I like them is they're chrome. Yeah, so what? Ask yourself what finishes you have on your Super X. The answer is three: black paint, whatever color you might have on the tins and chrome.

What you don't have is bare aluminum. In fact, the edges of the cylinder fins and the control levers are the only bare aluminum finish on the bike. These levers eliminate that. They subtly complete the look of the controls without being overdone.

In the pictures below, You can see the stock brake lever and the Kuryakyn piece side-by-side. From the backside, notice how much wider the blades are. The factory lever is as it was removed from 1525.

Those are levers that I have buffed to a chrome-like finish in the past but, not kept up with. Even a few months in the dry desert air has taken away the glow, while the chrome ones retain their look.

Finally got around to taking a picture of the levers on the bike.

Over on one of the Yahoo! boards, there's an old list of parts that fit our bikes.  I found some Kawi adjustable levers from a Vulcan for mine.  Simple swap.

Yeah, I’ve seen those references over the years but they specifically addressed one part number or another. Now knowing the Kuryakyn cross reference, someone may find other levers from those bikes they like: adjustable, black finish, whatever.
