Bike won?t start
« on: September 18, 2023, 05:24:53 PM »
I own EH 1038 and live in Lake Powell AZ. I replaced the battery a few weeks ago and when I turned the ignition I did not hear the regular noise that signals fuel to the engine. The bike wouldn?t fire at all. I have checked fuses and all are good and the bike will fire with starting fluid. I can hear the fuel pump and have power to it and the EFI.  Any suggestions would be appreciated

few questions:
how long has this bike sat?
confused with canceling comments...cant hear fuel pump...can hear fuel pump. does it sound smooth and electrical, or does it skip and snarl?
will fuel squirt out of fuel line from fuel pump?

its obvious you have spark...via ether shot..

so fuel it is....   injectors plugged from sitting a length of time. or fuel pump from sitting with old fuel. my best guess with out more info.

Yep, it runs with starting fluid so it's fuel related. If it was injectors, it's pretty rare for both to plug 100% and do it at the same time.

If the fuel pump is making noise, it's the O rings or a leak in the internal hose. If the fuel pump isn't spinning, it's the fuel pump AND the O-rings and internal hose. Whatever the case, the fuel pump has to come out.

My experience: my fuel pump sounded perfektly and I thought it was the last thing to check.
I was wrong.
Some good advice from this site and I could see pressure hardly came up to 1 bar / 15 psi.
I changed the o-ring at pressure regulator, pressure jumped up to over 5 bar / 60 psi and the engine started.

Luca, I'm glad that this one was easy to fix. The o rings are a regular annoyance. It is so often the problem with our bikes. How was the plastic hose looking? Is it getting yellowed? I had so many of those failing that I went through one bike at a time, pulled the pumps and replaced all the hoses.

Also: how was your black plastic regulator housing looking? Is it cracking around the brass elbow? That is the other failure that is going to be facing our bikes.

And how is the smoking? I wish we had some suggestions there.

Hi!
the brass elbow was quite ok, maybe looking some drier, and that's why I handled with some extra respect...

My next guess about smoking is that I put too much engine oil (being afraid of running poor of it), I'm trying to drain some and check the oil "rain dance". VERY carefully...
I let you know in some days in my post.
