Anyone Relocated The Driving Lamps Switch From The Front Housing?
« on: September 07, 2024, 11:13:25 AM »
Been wanting to upgrade my stock lights to LED for some time now. Bought a set with the 7" lamp and 4.5" driving lamps that did not look too bad to my eyes, considering I hesitated for years because of changing the look from the classic style lens`. Plus, all of the classic look options for the 7" had no similar light for the 4.5"er`s.
So, dry fitting what I got seem to work fine, but the small switch on the left housing has to go. I know I seen someone years ago a bike that relocated the switch to the top of dash with a small rocker switch. It appears from the Driving Light Installation instructions I still have from the dealer back when, this only 2 wire harness connects to the main harness under the tank. Thinking of tapping into the 2 wire before the main harness? I`m assuming it is being grounded thru the main harness as it is only two wire? Plus, any specs on a replacement switch that is imperative, other than 12v? Markings on the EH switch says 6A 125 VAC / 3A 250 VAC, and is a 3 way switch with only two terminals used.

Thought I`d cast this out there if someone did this already?

My bike has a custom light bar and was wired up by the former owner. Don't recall if it is wired through a relay or not, but I installed a pair of switches on the bars and one of them controls the driving lights.

I've seen people make an aluminum tab to go down on one of the forward tank mounts. They make it big enough to mount an electrical switch right there. The wiring for the light bar plugs in on the main harness there on the left side of the bike so everything is in the vicinity. No new holes in the bike.

Yeah, my other option I`m think of, is to simply run the existing switch wires back out of the housing to somewhere near the triple tree? Got to sleep on this longer before I start modifying or someone wakes me up with other ideas.
