New EH owner
« on: July 09, 2011, 06:30:03 PM »
Wow, I finally got my hands on an EH! I had been looking for a unique bike when I read about the Hanlon's venture. It looks to me like they did everything right and would have made a serious dent in HD's sales. Too bad they could not continue production.
I didn't think I would find an EH I could afford, when low and behold...eBay saved the day. I picked up this beauty for $5k with all the mods already done to it.
When the previous owner put a set of tall handle bars on it, he did away with the front turn signals and the horn for some reason. Anybody know where I can lay my hands on some?
Another question: How does one access the software (or pull codes) from the ECM? I don't have a problem yet, but want to be ready. Is there scan tool for this?
Thanks Dan Hanlon for giving the world a great bike! When (and IF) I win the lottery, I'll help you start production back up!
   Mike

Welcome to X world!! You'll enjoy it! No other bikes out there like it. And you got it for what appears to be a very good price.
What's the last 4 vin numbers? Color? Mileage? Options? etc ...
Get that X on the registry.... as all of us X owners like to know where they're at... especially if they're in close proximity to ourselves.
Lots of informational sources here on the ol' www....
As for your missing pieces... there are several vendors .....
Atlantic E-H.....  John's Super X.... Charlie Brandon... Russ Fullen  .... all very good vendors. which you can find on this link.... http://www.excelsiorhenderson.com/pages/tech/partsservice.html    Also Terry Callahan is listed on this link, and most of his parts he still has, are pretty much whole sale.                                                                                                                                                         If you're patient, those parts may very well show up on ebay for a lower price, but I'm sure these folks listed above have them also.
I don't know if your X has the updated tunes.... but if you purchase the SuperXtune from  Tim on this same link. You'll be able to trouble shoot your X.  If you don't have it already. If you budget is a bit low..... OBD I, you can trouble shoot thru codes. Tim is very helpful with tune, if you get cornered... its a great product.

Feel free to contact me or anyone else you feel comfortable with here, or your choice. Most of us really enjoy helping each other....

Hi Bruce,
Thanks for the response and the parts tips. Mine is 0741, previously owned  by Randy King. From what I understand, he had all the work done on the bike by "The Bike Shack" who is owned by Robert Baldwin. From what I've read on the internet, Mr. Baldwin is the X-man himself. I have yet to contact him, but he might know the whereabouts of the original parts from this bike.
Mr. King had lots of chrome components added to the tall bars. The brake, clutch and controls are all aftermarket chrome and look really custom. He also had a black custom exhaust installed (sounds like "Glass-Packs") for a unique sound. The bike is factory black with the red pin stripes. I'll try to attach a picture, but I didn't have any success the last time I tried.
I have already registered on www.superxowners.com. Their registry shows owners resident states, but not cities. Is there a way to find EH owners near me? I live in Tehachapi, CA, about 40 miles east of Bakersfield in the mountains. I love it here, lots of good places to ride.
Once again thanks, I'm sure I'll be in touch.
Mike

Nice looking X... very nice. Bobby has a certain touch about him, and always like to here about him still fooling around with them.
Mine is also a black 99.

I suggest that you also register your bike on this web site...

I'd call Terry or get on his web site, to see what his prices are for a start, if Bobby doesn't have those parts.     http://www.ocathalains-online-mall.com/      here's his address. It looks like Terry is traveling at the moment.... so his site isn't up to speed. So you probably could shoot prices at the other vendors... so you would at least know your price range...

any other questions pop up... I'm on most of the sites...

Bruce,
Thanks for your comments and assistance. Yes, I registered on this site as well....Still no way to tell how close another EH owner might be to me. California is a big damn state!
I have been to Terry's web page, it's still not open. I'll keep checking back.
