Another new owner

Hi All,

New owner from Austin, TX.  Super X # 358.

This motorcycle found me about a month ago and I've been slowly familiarizing myself with the quirks and required upgrades. Texas gets really hot so I ordered the fan assisted oil cooler along with a few other things just to get started. I'll work my way through the upgrade list as time permits.

One problem I've been chasing with no luck is my hazard lights are blinking out a morse code message to persons unknown. No, not a steady flash. They blink together intermittently and randomly. Sometimes short flashes other times longer. Other times the problem goes away. The blinkers still function though. Sometimes while a blinker is on both lights will flash together then it goes back to one light blinking.

I've opened both the blinker and flasher switches and found nothing obviously wrong. Lifted the tank off the frame and inspected the harness and there are no worn or abraded areas in any of the wiring. Also checked the battery ground to the engine and that was tight. I'm left scratching my head.

Has anyone had a similar problem? What was the solution? Thanks in advance.

I myself haven't had that exacty experinced that exact problem.... I have similar...

My advice..... Check all the wiring very closely.... Like with a magnefing glass. One X we were trouble shooting the wire blowing the fuse, had a minute chafe.... Pin head sized... Which created a phantom ghost electrical problem that made the bike very unreliable....   Another issue I came across was a connector that just popped loose....

After you are confident the wiring is good then look at a new turnsignal unit...   And/or the switch on the bars

Hope this helps.   Bruce

Mine did the similar thing several years ago.  The terminal to the battery was broke inside the insulation.  Also make sure your battery is 100% charged.

This sounds like an electrial problem waiting to happen... Chase all your wireing and double and triple check it. Do the ground strap upgrade.. Check the terminals too... What has happened in the past is a wire grounds out and goes to ground through the throttle cables or the turn signal harness... Flickering lights or something out of the ordinary is a pre warning... Be very cautious!
Burnt harness's are not fun!
