dies when hot
« on: January 29, 2015, 10:25:57 PM »
I have read posts on similar problems but the answers do not seem to fit my situation.
The bike starts up and runs fine in all ways for about 10 miles (20minutes) then it will cut out and if the clutch is depressed it will die, if not it will keep running but cut out badly and must be kept reved up.If it dies it will not start until it cools down (about 10 minutes) then will restart and run fine until it gets warm then it starts all over, usually within one minute.Then when completely cool it will start the sequence all over.I checked the rubber cap on the throttle boby-it is shot but it does the same with no cap. Your thoughts please! could it be the crank sensor?
Thanks for any help.

it could be a multiple issues and simple enough...
that rubber cap, needs to be vacuum tight and will cause stalling..... get that replaced.
Does your bike have an updated tune? ..... that has caused problems in the past..... they will have a tendancy to die off at idle.... i.e... when pulling up to a stop sign once warm.
I do not believe it is your engine crank sensor......    99% of the time when it goes.... bike will not start at all...... But I do know of one that when it got hot, he'd pour something cool on it, and it would run another 20 miles....
TPS sensor could easily be sticking...... and this makes sense if it is governed by the engine being warm or not...    Take it off and clean it up... while there...... check out the IAC. WARNING, the center of that IAC will tend to shoot across the shop floor.......    lost for ever..... handle with care....
Check all of your intake gaskets. The throttle body gasket is getting rare, (silicon will work fine), but I've pulled one of those off, and it was folded over. Intake gaskets at the heads could also be a problem.

once you've done all of that, and still have a problem, we can do some trouble shooting.

Bruce thank you for the reply.
I have replaced the rubber cap.
The bike has a tune upgrade and all mods completed by Jamie Jones.

where do I find the TPS and the iac and what do they stand for?
I checked the gaskets and all seem to be fine and sucking no air.

the bike runs fine at the moment as it is cold-I do not want to ride it again until I have checked those two above items you mentioned.
Thanks again,Mike

Find on this site the downloadable parts book. And get it downloaded for your own benefit.... Itll get you familiar real quick what everything is, and where at.
Tps=throttle position sensor
Aic=Air idle control...

Both of these are on the throttle body.
while you are there... It woud be smart check fuel pressure.....

Be sure the connections on both the tps and aic are on good....   Dont want to feel stupid once you take them apart.

Im going to assume to check these gaskets you did a spray test?

Just a side note... Did you buy a superXtune cd also?
