spent half an hour the other day and then another half an hour this afternoon trying to get the rear drain plug out on 1304..... now have 2 snapped spanners and bruised/grazed hand.
I have NEVER had a drain plug that just wouldnt move as bad as this.

I have had grips on the outer edge,
9mm drain plug key with 8mm socket on it which actually ended up with  the snap on socket cracked,
then tried 8mm spanner on the plug key with a bar over it - ended up snapping 2 ring spanners and the last one cut my hand...cue some choice langauge!
The front plug was tight, but this is crazy, getting really nervous about cracking the engine case if I put a 1/2 powerbar and scaffolding pole on it!

LOL.... u r finding all the fun stuff.....
My thoughts are that those drain plugs get so wickedly tight from the sand castings.... where as the porous sand cast will actually suck up any lube on the seat.... its crazy..... that's for sure...

I had one several years ago... I had to put a big ol pipe wrench on it to bust it loose, tapped the wrench with a hammer. I know the feeling of maybe going too far.... but face the music, if you don't get it off, its not going to be any worse than cracking that case (very doubtful)....

I don't know if you have NAPA over there or something similar, but notice on that cross over reference parts numbers... there are nutted drain plugs out there that work better.... I have the NAPA drain plugs, and they don't seem as tough to get off....

unfortunatley no NAPA over here, but if I can actually get it out I should be able to get something to fit.
Never know one to be so tight that you snap 2 spanners and crack a socket before it cracks loose before...guess its 1/2 inch straiight bar with a piece of scaffolding pole over it to get some pressure on it... I only ever usually have to go that far removing FWD driveshaft bolts... scarry stuff on an ally cast engine case though...

got up early this morning and the sun was shining.... damn drain plug came out first try with a big socket and a hell of a lot of force.....  ;D

Unfortunately I ran around every store in the NE and nobody stocks anything even close to the Drain plugs from the bike.
Very reluctantly I have ended up putting them back in until the next oil change, but at least the bike is back up and running again with fresh oil and filter.

I tried calling Marty at Atlantic several days this week with nobody picking up..
trying to source plugs and a correct crank sensor for 1301 and maybe a few other parts too!

I've got one of the aforementioned Napa drain plugs in one of my bikes. It came with a plastic washer, so it doesn't need to be as tight to seal. And it's easier to get a hold of because it's a 1" hex instead of an allen. Give me your mailing address, I'll ship you one!
