odometer
« on: June 02, 2017, 02:39:12 PM »

Have been out on 1228 for 15, 50, & 125 mile trips so far since the winter tuneup and it is running quite well approaching 30,000.  Thanks for all the questions answered here.  I do notice that the odometer seems to be registering about 10% higher than actual known distances, which is great for mpg.  Traffic seems to be moving at higher than expected speeds which the bike seems to like. How many rpm should 60mph be ( 4th and 5th gear)?

I did look at a post from a few years ago that talked about a harness and an S&S tool to correct a 11-12% factory difference?

Steam...
yes you are correct, our speedo's are about 10% off....
So..... when it reads 60, you are actually doing about 55.
At 60 on the speedo, would normally be minimum speed for 5th gear.

old rule of thumb was to try to never run X under 2250rpms.... in theory it was too low of lugging.
With the exception of starts or coasting. HD do sound wonderful pulling out of the low RPMs.... and actually so do our X's....   but its not a good thing to get into the habit...

I usually run shift points of 2250-3000...
