Hi  guys ...  the deadwood  air insert has a black background ...if ya need any  I have a couple ...the headlite bracket was either  chrome  or  black ... some of the later bikes, any color, were black  too ...all depends who reached for the bins on assy  line ...I have  1956  and headlite bracket is chrome  never seen a  oyster though

Interesting. So how many color air cleaner backgrounds were there? When I was replacing a scratched one about five years ago, Martie told me of a grey vs black thing and it had to do with year. She only had the one color. I don't see mention of that in the parts book.

Of course the same color thing is true of the 1999 vs 2000 mirrors: one having dark lettering and the other having light lettering. There is no part number differentiation in the manual.

Only  two colors for the air  cover  ...no other ...deadwoods were black  background  only ... because of the color black ...  rcsandruck@msn.com     if ya need any

After visiting the Mecum auction in Las Vegas, I'm going to bump this with a little follow-up to our prior discussions.

Black air cleaner decals: I saw multiple Deadwoods with the incorrect decal (each of these is hyperlinked to pics of the bikes):

1634: grey air cleaner
1639: grey air cleaner
1705: grey air cleaner
1772: here we have the proper black air cleaner

Ironically, 1892 is a Raven Black / Gold stripe and has the black decal. Yeah, one could argue that it could have been changed but, it still has the stock air cleaner backing plate (as did most or all of these bikes). I doubt anybody has ever bothered to remove that cover, much less replace the decal.

It appears to be proven that black was intended to be for the Deadwood models but, that's clearly not how they bikes got packed in the crates. Now I wonder if it was a supply timing issue or mistakes made on the assembly line.

Then there was the other question about the black headlight brackets. Yes indeed, they were randomly put onto bikes. My 1525, 1663 and 1989 have chrome brackets. These are in similar ranges and had black brackets. Interesting...

1388: Henderson blue with a black bracket
1974: Jennie with a black bracket
1834: red / oyster with a black bracket
1892: mentioned above not only had the black air cleaner but, also the black bracket

So, questions answered and we all know a little more about the bikes.
